Critical April 15 Deadlines

  • C-Corporations: It is time to file your 2025 calendar year income tax return (Form 1120) and pay any outstanding taxes owed. If you need some breathing room to gather paperwork, you must submit Form 7004 for an automatic 6-month extension. Filing an extension protects your business from late filing penalties, but it does not extend your payment window. You still need to accurately estimate your total liability and deposit the funds following Form 7004 instructions to prevent late payment fines. Additionally, the first installment of your 2026 estimated corporate tax is due today.
  • Payroll & Non-Payroll Withholding: If your company falls under the monthly deposit rule, you must remit the taxes for payments made in March. This includes Social Security, Medicare, and any withheld income tax.
  • Fiduciary Returns: This is the last day to timely file your 2025 calendar year fiduciary return (Form 1041, U.S. Income Tax Return of Estates and Trusts), or properly file for an extension.

April 30 Deadlines: Payroll & FUTA

  • Form 941 Filing: You must file Form 941 for the first quarter of 2026. Be sure to deposit or pay any remaining undeposited tax. If your total tax liability is less than $2,500, you can pay it in full with a timely filed return. As a small bonus, if you deposited the tax for the entire quarter in full and exactly on time, the IRS grants you until May 11 to formally file the return.
  • Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA): Deposit the tax owed through the end of March if the total amount exceeds $500.

Important Filing Exceptions

Always remember that if a statutory due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the deadline is automatically pushed to the next standard business day.
